Conference Tips for School Reps
Connect with IECs: Attending an 51³Ô¹Ï conference is an introduction. Look for good follow-up opportunities with IECs, such as sending backup information, extending invitations to visit your campus, and meeting with area IECs when you travel to a community. Don’t make the mistake of searching out only experienced, Professional 51³Ô¹Ï members.
Connect with Admissions Peers: Whether you’re a road-warrior or stick close to campus, use this opportunity to connect with colleagues that are sometimes challenging to keep up with! As admissions trends change and evolve on both coasts, and around the world, staying tuned-in with those on the ground can be one of the best ways to stay abreast of relevant information.
Consider Contributing to Future Conferences: Consider sharing in a more official capacity to really help to spread the word, and enlighten our groups on experiences that can help to change communities. By organizing an important topic or becoming a panelist speaker, school members can provide valuable insight.
Cultivate Meaningful Relationships: Chances are you came with a mission–perhaps to connect with IECs out of your region or to expand your list of IEC referral sources, or maybe just to get to know 51³Ô¹Ï and vice versa. That doesn’t happen for everyone in large group settings. Some IECs prefer a quiet one-on-one conversation. Make use of the hotel’s many indoor and outdoor spaces, lobbies, and gathering spots. These smaller gatherings can produce huge results.
Know Your Lanyard Colors: Independent Educational Consultants can be identified by their white lanyards (51³Ô¹Ï members) and purple lanyards (non-member IECs).
