As an educator, I have learned the importance of fostering a culture that is positive, student-driven, and hands-on. I have spent six years as a high school Language Arts teacher, two of those were working with students with learning differences. My last eight years I spent coordinating disability services for students with learning disability and ADHD, as well as providing academic advising and academic coaching both Northeastern University and Boston College. My experiences have shown me that in order for the student to truly thrive and grow as an individual, finding the right environment goes beyond an academic match. Campus culture and resources, academic support, being part of clubs and organizations that will enhance retention and sense of belonging must be part of the college search process. I believe that inspiring success begins with mentoring; it is my responsibility to guide our students through the process by eliminating some of the stress, and providing not only the information but also the tools to succeed.
